Excellent question! You’ve come online and seen snippets about Internet marketing so you Googled it. What did you see? Zillions – okay, maybe a slight exaggeration – of ads and blogs and sites showering you with opportunities.
Feeling like a kid in a sweetshop, you want to try this one and that one, and – oh – that pretty blue one over there. You can create products, do affiliate promotions, provide services – the list seems endless. It starts getting a little overwhelming because you don’t know the best place to start.
What’s Your Main Need?
Are you desperate for money or would you like to build a business just to prove that you can? You can have both, but if your electricity’s about to be turned off, you might prefer to work for others before trying to carve out your own niche.
You see, some business models take more time to make money than others. For example, if you were ghostwriting for someone, you could be paid through PayPal today. That’s something to think about, don’t you think?
Time to do Affiliate Marketing?
If you decided to start as an Amazon Associate and use affiliate marketing as your business model, it would take at least two months to receive any payment from it. That doesn’t include the time it would take you to create content to convert readers into buyers.
Learn and List.
Learn about the different business models and make a list of the ones you’re interested in. Then make a list of your skills and talents. Don’t try to tell me you don’t have any. If that was true, you wouldn’t be reading this.
What sort of skills? Things like graphics, writing, technical, research.
There are plenty of books and courses available both online and offline. When you buy a course, use all of it before you decide it’s useless. Even then, contact the product creator and show them your progress. They may be able to get you back on course.
Please don’t buy every course, gadget and one time offer you’re faced with. It’s easy enough to start with free or low-cost options.
Give Yourself Time.
If you’re desperate for cash, it’s not wise to start with Internet marketing. Despite what some ads (and people) say, it’s not “push button” and “done for you.”
A few unscrupulous marketers push “get rich quick” schemes. Don’t touch them. Those people just want your money and will tell you anything to get it.
No-one I know has managed to avoid failure along the way. Mostly, it hasn’t been “losing your house” type failure, but it has got quite “hairy” at times! Accept that you’ll fail sometimes, hopefully not all the time.
