The term “product creation” is one you’ll keep seeing because it’s one of the cornerstones of Internet marketing.

In simple terms, you need a product to offer potential buyers so they will give you money in exchange.

You’ve probably heard me banging on about this before but – I’ve got to keep saying it – people aren’t going to give you money if you haven’t got anything to sell them.

1. What is a Product?

A product could be one of many things. In IM, it could include a report, an eBook, an eCourse, a CD, a DVD, a video, a webinar, software, a plugin, a website, a blog, graphics, training, a sales letter, individual web pages, articles, blog posts, etc.

Right now, what could you offer in exchange for money? Sex doesn’t count (this isn’t that sort of blog!)

2. Creating a Product.

“Where do I start?”

You start with an idea. What ideas have you got?

Looking at the list in the last section, which of those floats your boat/appeals to you as a product you could create?

I’ve been checking out creating a plugin so I did some research. Went on http://wordpress.org to see if anyone was already doing the plugin I’d thought of.  No-one was so I did more research. More about that another time.

I saw loads of EU cookie policy plugins. I live in the United Kingdom which has embraced the EU cookie policy.

A handful (5 at most) of EU cookie plugins is okay. We want choice, don’t we? But 20-25? I don’t think so!

The point is, be as unique as you can. Don’t do what everyone else is doing. Dare to be different.

3. Help is Available.

“What if I get stuck? You know, if I get so far then get stuck. What do I do, then?”

There are people around who can help. Contact me – if I can’t help, I’ll know someone who can.

If you can afford to, you could “outsource” your product creation. Pass it to a freelancer. You’d avoid the hassle of trying to produce something.

Your Bit.

Got any ideas yet?

‘Til next time,

    Hi Shan,

Nice and short to the point post. I wish you the best of luck creating your plugin. “Dare to be different” does not mean someone cannot improve something that already exists, or creating something quite similar but being daring in the way he/she does the branding and marketing. We, for example, did not come up with a plugin that no one had ever heard of, but what we have done, and will continue doing is making it better and more “unique” from other plugins that are “similar”.

    Thanks for the share.

      Hi Amiti

Thanks for visiting and commenting. You’re quite right, it’s good when you see something that could be improved and you’re the person/company to do it.

I’m excited about your product Shan and I have no doubt your plugin will be cool. I didn’t know you were a developer or maybe you have someone creating it for you. I’ve always thought that would be neat to know how to do but there are so many things that go wrong and updates that need to take place that I thought I better stick with what I know.

I’m in the process of creating my own product at the moment and it’s coming along nicely. I hope not to wait until the end of the year to release this one but want a few more things in place first. Soon though, I hope soon.

      Hi Adrienne

Thank you. I’m excited, too. I’m not a developer – this came from an idea that I shelved then went back to.

I’m looking forward to seeing your product. It’s about time, young lady! 😉
