If you’re a “blog-hopper” (go from blog to blog) like me, you’ll have experienced all types of blog posts. Some types are easy to describe as in they’re “review” posts or “list” posts. Others don’t quite know what they are which can leave some readers a little confused because the writers message isn’t coming across.
To keep your blog fresh, you should post regularly. Before you say anything, I’m learning! Creating different types of post will keep your readers interested. Face it, people, if your readers are bored, they’ll vote with their feet. In other words, they’ll go somewhere else.Whether you’re blogging to drive traffic to an affiliate program or make money directly from the blog, you should know about these five types of blog posts.
1. Quick tips
Quick tips make great “filler” posts because they’re so short — usually 100-250 words. If you’ve got a great piece of information to tell your niche but don’t want to use a full blog post, post a quick tip. Remember it’s a tip so should be focused on one main area of your niche. For example, “How to Grease a Cupcake Tray” would be perfect for a baking blog.
2. Review blog posts
Review blog posts can help you monetize your blog. When you review a product and include an affiliate link, you’ll earn commission from each sale that comes from your affiliate link. Ideally, review blog posts should go over the main good points and bad points of the product. Your review needs to be balanced, even if you love the product, so mention a few things that could be improved. Your audience will appreciate your honesty and be more likely to trust your recommendation.
3. “How to” posts
“How to” posts help you give valuable information to your audience, like quick tips. These posts contain detailed information on a particular topic, unlike quick tips. If you’d like ideas on what to write a “how to” post about, check out the frequently asked questions in your niche and develop posts around those areas.
Lists are popular! Check out the most popular blogs and you’ll see that they use list posts a lot. A list will fit any niche topic. They’re a great way to give out information online because they’re so easy to scan by readers who prefer to skim over information. You could create resource lists to help your readers find information on your niche. You could also create lists of different ways to accomplish a goal in a niche, such as “5 Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website.” Endless possibilities.
Interviews need quite a bit of preparation but they can be very valuable to your blog. You could interview someone in your niche and share the results of the interview in a blog post. You’ll be putting valuable content on your blog, which could increase your blog traffic. Chances are that your interviewee will publicize the interview on their blog and around the Internet which would send more traffic to you.
